What is a flange? What is the use of a flange?

A flange is a disc-shaped part, which is most common in pipeline engineering. Flanges are used in pairs. In pipeline engineering, flanges are mainly used to connect pipelines. In the pipelines that need to be connected, a flange plate is installed. Low-pressure pipelines can use threaded flanges, and welding flanges are used for pressures above 4 kg. Add sealing points between the two flange plates and then tighten them with bolts.

Flanges of different pressures have different thicknesses and use different bolts. When water pumps and valves are connected to pipelines, these parts of equipment are also made into corresponding flange shapes, also known as flange connections. All connecting parts that are bolted and closed on two planes are generally called "flanges", such as the connection of ventilation ducts. This type of parts can be called "flange parts". However, this connection is only a part of a device, such as the connection between a flange and a water pump, so it is not good to call the water pump a "flange part". Smaller ones such as valves can be called "flange parts".

The use of flanges

Flanges are used for positioning. For example, there is a way to install the oil cylinder called flange installation, which is to make four symmetrical holes around a rectangular block, and there is a large hole in the middle that is the same as the outer diameter of the oil cylinder. This rectangular block is put on the oil cylinder and they can be welded or fixed together in other ways. The connection between the oil cylinder and other things is connected by the four holes around the rectangular block. This rectangular block can be called a flange.
